# 04/09 Market overview

The regional situation in the Middle East has taken a sharp turn on 8th April, as the temporary US-Iran ceasefire agreement was announced. Massive Israeli airstrikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon prompted Iran to declare the truce violated and announce the re-closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Geopolitical tensions have spiked once again, causing the cryptocurrency market to retreat from its recent highs after yesterday’s spike.

Based on Coingecko market data, ETH fell 2.7% in 24h, now at $2,177.56. BTC is at $70,881.07, down 1.0% in 24h.
